Romantic Getaway at New Smyrna Beach

Living in the middle of the Midwest, the beach is pretty far away. Even when I can’t sneak in a beach getaway, my mind often wanders back to our romantic getaway on the white sandy shore of New Smyrna Beach!

We don’t have a beach vacation scheduled for several months, but that won’t stop me from reminiscing about our romantic getaway to New Smyrna Beach.

If I close my eyes and think back…

I can almost feel the warm sun on my skin and hear the waves crashing against the sand.

When looking for a romantic beach getaway on Florida’s Atlantic side, a little googling and rave reviews from a few Facebook friends, pointed us to New Smyrna Beach. And we couldn’t have been happier with our choice.

New Smyrna Beach is our kind of paradise!

New Smyrna Beach House

With the help of Airbnb, we booked 2 nights at the New Smyrna Beach House. We instantly fell in love with this charming beachfront home…and added a 3rd night to our stay.

New Smyrna Beach House

New Smyrna Beach House offers 5 different units, and we selected Unit 5. This one-bedroom unit also includes a small kitchen, cozy living room, and private bathroom.

bedroom

Unit 5 is on the 2nd floor of the house and has amazing views of the beach from every room. On the second morning, I laid in bed just watching the waves roll in and dolphins peak out of the ocean.

The house also boasts shared upper and lower beachfront decks. Perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and watching the sunset or soaking up some sun before stepping onto the sand.

And the beach is literally right there! Depending on the time of day and the strength of the tide, the water’s edge is just a few yards from the deck.

You cannot get more beachfront than this, or they would have to call it a houseboat!

Our 3-night stay in Unit 5 cost us just over $500. Not a bad price for a little slice of paradise!

The property also includes a studio and two 2-bedroom units. The final unit is never rented out and serves as the owner’s private getaway. Smart beachfront homeowners!

Of course, our stay at New Smyrna Beach House had Brent and me discussing the idea of buying beachfront property. We like to dream of the idyllic beach lifestyle.

But we eventually came to our senses and realized that vacationing at the beach is much more relaxing than maintaining a property and accommodating tourists!

The Beach

After spending the previous week on Florida’s gulf coast, the Atlantic side was quite a change of pace. The gulf coast invites you in with its calm water and is ideal for lounging in the ocean, cocktail in hand.

The Atlantic shoreline is much more lively and activates all your senses. At New Smyrna Beach we got to enjoy the sound of the waves hitting the shore and the feel of the salty breeze against our sunkissed skin.

We enjoyed watching both novice and experienced surfers as they rode the waves. And I felt the exhilaration of the water doing its best to knock me down if I wasn’t paying attention!

I spent most of the day lounging in my beach chair while enjoying a few cocktails. As Zac Brown Band says, my only worry in the world was if the tide was gonna reach my chair!

Located just 25 minutes south of well-known Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach offers 17 miles of white sandy beaches.

drive on the beach

One unique feature of New Smyrna Beach is that cars can actually drive on the beach. We saw many vehicles with their sunbathers tailgating along the shoreline.

For just $20 a day you can drive your vehicle right onto the sand and pop up your beach chairs. No need to lug all your beach gear on your back!

Of course with our prime location at New Smyrna Beach House, we had no need to drive onto the beach.

The beach was right in our backyard!

Flagler Avenue

A quick stroll down the beach or along the street in front of New Smyrna Beach House brings you to Flagler Avenue.

flaglar avenue

This popular street spans five blocks, stretching from the ocean to the intercoastal waterway.

Flagler Avenue is lined with quaint shops selling beachy decor, clothing, jewelry, and unique souvenirs. You won’t find the large chain souvenir shops in New Smyrna Beach.

There are also several restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops as well as bars with an active nightlife.

Daytona Beach has many more touristy attractions and plenty of options for on-the-go families. But we found the laid-back vibe of New Smyrna Beach a much better fit for our romantic beach getaway.

At the end of Flagler Avenue sits The Breakers Restaurant. We had heard rave reviews about their burgers, so we had to check it out.

Breakers

With its unmistakably pink exterior, this beachfront restaurant is casual dining at its best. Shoes optional.

We ordered a burger and the fish and chips, and I recall the food being pretty tasty.

But what I remember most was the view. If I’m going to go out to eat while vacationing at the beach, I want to see the beach. And Breakers offers a spectacular view of the beach just outside.

Paradise Found

Three days at New Smyrna Beach was hardly enough time. But it was plenty of time to fall in love with this quaint beach town.

With many more restaurants to try and beachfront cocktails to sip, you can bet a return trip to New Smyrna Beach is in our future.
