Fruit Hills Winery

One of my favorite things to do on a road trip is to check out a local winery. My home state of Indiana has numerous fabulous wineries, and I’m slowly making my way through all of them!

On our way home from a wonderful weekend in Shipshewana, we stopped by Fruit Hills Winery in neighboring Bristol, Indiana.

It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday…perfect for wine tasting. Then again, any day is a perfect day for wine tasting! (Except for Mondays at Fruit Hills Winery as they are closed that day.)

About the Owners

David and Michelle Muir are the proud owners of Fruit Hills Winery, and their home is right next door.

vineyardWe had the pleasure of chatting with Michelle while relaxing at one of the picnic tables on the lawn overlooking the vineyard.

David’s family has been running the Judson Fruit Farm since the 1850’s.  And in 2010 David and Michelle decided to add winemaking to the already successful farm.

Michelle shared that managing the vineyard and winery hasn’t always been easy. But they are happy with the winery’s growth and excited about adding more on-site entertainment and food options.

The day we visited the place was bustling with enthusiastic wine lovers!

The Wine

wine tastingFor just $5 you can sample a generous pour of 5 different wines. I tend to gravitate towards the sweet wines and my husband prefers a good dry wine. With over 20 varieties, including red wines, white wines, sweet wines, fruit wines, and hard apple ciders, we both found several that pleased our palates.wine

Their best seller…Make Me Blush.

After a glass or two, your cheeks are sure to take on a rosy hue.

So of course, I picked up a bottle to take home, along with a bottle of Razzcato. I love a good Moscato and this one includes a nice little punch of razzberry.

Brent’s favorites included their Traminette and Just Once. A bottle of white…a bottle of red. (If you are a Billy Joel fan you just sang that last line to yourself!)

After sampling the wines I couldn’t resist buying a wine slushie, made with the Razzcato, to enjoy on their spacious deck.

Anyone else love a good wine slushie?!

The Atmosphere

porch signOn a nice day, I believe wine is best enjoyed outdoors. And while the Fruit Hills Winery tasting room is lovely…the spacious deck and lawn offer the ideal setting for partaking in a glass (or two) of your favorite wine.

There is plenty of room to spread out and relax in the tranquil outdoor setting. My husband and I could easily picture a fun-filled afternoon at Fruit Hills Winery with some of our wine-loving friends.deck

You can also enjoy live music on the deck every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from May through September. A variety of food vendors will be serving up mouth-watering dishes at the winery on several weekends this summer. If no food vendor is scheduled then guests are encouraged to BYOF (Bring Your Own Food).

Good Wine. Good Music. Good Food. Good Company.
Sounds like the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon!
