Seldom Scene Meadow Bed & Breakfast in Richmond Indiana

The older I get, the more I appreciate spending quality time with my mom! So we were both excited to get away for a few days on a Just Us Girls trip to Richmond, Indiana.

Stay tuned for our adventures throughout Richmond and the surrounding area. But first I want to tell you about the Seldom Scene Meadow Bed & Breakfast…because an amazing girls’ getaway requires luxurious accommodations!

Seldom Scene, But Not To Be Missed

As soon as we drove up the long, hidden driveway, I understood how this BnB got its unique name. You won’t just happen upon this bed & breakfast as it is neatly tucked back from the main road. But don’t worry, after making your reservation, you will be given detailed directions that will make getting to this BnB very easy.

Seldom Scene Meadow BnB is located just a bit north of interstate 70 and is less than a 10-minute drive (about 4 miles) to the heart of Richmond. This gives you the best of both worlds: a serene place to relax and rejuvenate as well as easy access to all the sights and sounds of the greater Richmond area.

The weather did not cooperate during our stay as it was rather rainy and gloomy (not that we let a little rain spoil our fun). When the weather is a bit nicer guests can enjoy sitting in the lush and serene backyard while enjoying an early morning coffee or an end-of-the-day glass of wine. This is a perfect spot for bird watching, and even through the rain-soaked windows, we spied several colorful birds getting their fill at the birdfeeders out back.

There is even an outdoor hot tub to soothe your muscles after a long day of traveling or seeing the sights. Just don’t forget your bathing suits as we did!

Comfy Bedrooms

This spacious BnB includes six comfy bedrooms, each with its own unique theme. Each room can be rented individually or if you have a large crew you can rent out the entire home. The home easily accommodates 13 guests (and a few more if you add some portable bed options).

There are two guest rooms on the first floor. Given that they were occupied by other guests we didn’t get to peek inside. But I have no doubt that they include the same level of charm and luxury of the upstairs bedrooms.

The elegant spiral staircase in the foyer leads you to the second floor where four additional bedrooms can be found.

We had the privilege of staying in the Western bedroom, which is the largest upstairs bedroom. If you haven’t already guessed, this room includes plenty of Western-inspired trinkets and decor, so even the men in your crew would feel right at home in this room!

western decor

The Western room easily accommodates three people with a king-size bed as well as a day bed. I practically melted into the pillowtop mattress and high-end, goose down pillows on the king bed.

Given the size and layout of the Western room, it could easily accommodate a few more guests with an air mattress or pack-n-play.

This room includes a small table, which would have been perfect for playing cards if we hadn’t used up all our energy sightseeing! There is also ample closet space for those who plan to stay a bit longer and really make themselves at home.

While my mom and I were only in town for one night, Seldom Scene Meadow Bed & Breakfast often accommodates guests connected to Earlham or one of the other local colleges who need longer term housing.

The Butterly Room and the Thistle Room are just down the hall and are smaller guest rooms, but they are also quite lovely.

And at the end of the hall is the Poppy Room. This room has lots of space to spread out and relax.

There are two bathrooms on the second floor so each bedroom shares a bathroom with another guest room. We lucked out during our stay as there were no other second-floor guests, so my mom and I had the bathroom all to ourselves.

Common Areas

Back down on the first floor, there are plenty of cozy spots where you can unwind for a bit or choose to mingle with the other guests.

The spacious living room includes a large TV, perfect for gathering your crew for a movie night or to watch the big game. Or you can simply lounge in front of the fireplace with a good book or a board game.

Of course, those who are musically gifted will want to take advantage of the beautiful grand piano as you gaze out the beautiful picture window.

When not in our guest room, we actually spent most of our time in the massive, yet cozy kitchen. There is plenty of space to gather around the dining table and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea.

Hoosier Hospitality

Leighanne Hahn is the owner of Seldom Scene Meadow BnB, and in addition to deluxe accommodations, she also provides a heaping dose of Hoosier Hospitality. Upon arrival, she provided us with a tour of the house and made sure we knew how to access and use all the amenities at our disposal.

We connected right away and found we had plenty in common, including that we all graduated from Purdue University. Go Boilers!

Leighanne lives on site, and the basement level actually provides a mirror image of the first floor, giving her plenty of private space to herself. This nearly 5000 square foot house served as the home where Leighanne and her late husband raised their four children. While it still serves as Leighanne’s residence, she delights in welcoming new guests and helping them feel right at home.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the other signature component of any BnB, and that would be breakfast! Leighanne takes great pride in serving high-quality and locally grown foods to her guests.

breads

We got our day off to a great start with an assortment of fresh breads from the nearby Amish Market and several delightful fruit spreads.  Leighanne also prepared eggs made to order and locally sourced bacon. Fresh fruit, yogurt, and an assortment of juice rounded out the breakfast offerings, along with a selection of hot teas and ample french press coffee to kickstart our day.

It was just the right fuel to prepare us for a busy day of sightseeing!

Eco-Friendly

Leighanne takes great pride in making her guests comfortable, but she also takes great strides to do so in an eco-friendly way. Her property is supported by solar electric as well as passive solar hot water systems. If you are interested in sustainable living practices, you will have plenty to chat about with Leighanne!

Attention has been paid to every detail in the house. Each of the bedrooms incorporates restored or locally crafted furnishings, as well as many pieces of original art and hardwood floors.

When you visit Seldom Scene Meadow BnB, be sure to ask Leighanne about the carpet in the living room.  It’s made from corn! And yes, it is extremely soft and cushy!

My mom and I felt right at home at Seldom Scene Meadow Bed & Breakfast, and I know you will too.
