Enjoying some R&R at Julia’s B&B

Sometimes your travel destination and dates are selected for you. Work conferences…Family Reunions…Weddings. But that doesn’t mean you can’t add some of your own travel inspiration to a predetermined getaway.Wedding invite

That is exactly what we did last weekend, and we had an amazing time!

Bride and GroomWe were excited for our weekend getaway to Cortland, Ohio, for my co-worker’s wedding. Delyte and Billy tied the knot at a lovely church ceremony and then the guests partied hard at a local banquet hall.

The bride was breathtaking, the food was delish, and the groomsmen really knew how to cut a rug!

Given that aside from the bride, I only knew one other person at the wedding (besides my husband!), we had time in our romantic weekend for some extra fun.

With an hour to kill between the ceremony and reception, I did what I do best.

I found a winery!

We snuck in to Country Porch Winery and had just the right amount of time for a few 25 cent tastings and a full glass of my favorite wine.Country Porch Winery

I honestly liked every one of the sweet wines I tasted, but the Blueberry wine got my highest praise. I even bought a bottle to bring home to my friend and neighbor who was graciously dog-sitting for us.

I prefer to pay adults in wine!

Julia’s BnB

Aside from the “rock” on Delyte’s hand, the real jewel for us on this trip was Julia’s Bed and Breakfast! This hidden gem is located in Hubbard, Ohio.

Julia's BnBNow if you are like me, you have never even heard of Cortland or Hubbard, Ohio. And if it weren’t for Delyte’s wedding, I never would have discovered it…so thanks Delyte!!

As most brides do, Delyte reserved a block of hotel rooms for her guests. But since we didn’t know many of the guests, we wanted something a bit more romantic and out of the ordinary than your standard Holiday Inn.

I did some online searching and found Julia’s Bed and Breakfast. The online photos and descriptions told me this was the perfect option for our stay…but the reality of Julia’s BnB was even better!

Julia’s Suite

Julia's SuiteThe biggest and most luxurious of the rooms at the Bnb, Julia’s Suite was our beautiful home for the evening.

Julia’s suite was spacious and impecably decorated. A gas fireplace perfectly set the mood and gave some added warmth on this cool November night. The bed was large and comfortable. Julia's jacuzzi

Added touches included plush white robes, complimentary snacks and beverages, and access to 300 DVDs. We never took time to watch a movie, but instead indulged in the gigantic in-room jacuzzi tub.

We literally could have fit 4 more people in the tub. But I was happy to share it just with my husband!

For a full walk through of Julia’s Suite, check out this video we took during our stay.

6 Unique Rooms

Napolean's RoomJulia’s BnB has a total of 6 rooms, each with their unique style and Golf roomamenities.

We were able to sneak a peak in Napolean’s Room and the Golf View Room. They were both charming and well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable and pampered overnight stay.

But if Julia’s Suite is available and you want to splurge, I suggest booking the crown jewel of Julia’s BnB!

Wedding and Event Space

Triple gazeboJulia’s BnB hosts many weddings and other special events, and it is theWedding book ideal location for a one-of-a kind event. The triple gazebo is perfect for an intimate ceremony.

While there was not a wedding taking place this weekend, I could imagine an elegant wedding filling this space. Ironically, Delyte’s sister was married at Julia’s BnB several years ago!

Golfer’s Paradise

Golf CourseJulia’s BnB sits on the Pine Lakes Golf Course and has beautiful views of the first tee. The same person owns Julia’s Bnb, the golf course, and a few other properties along the course.

So if you are looking for a golfer’s getaway, Julia’s BnB should do the trick. Or check out one of the other propertises, with options to fit groups ranging from 4-36 people.

I’m not a golfer myself, but I can definitley enjoy the view as well as a stroll around the winding paths along the greens. And I’d be fine leaving the golfers on the green while I check out more of the local wineries!

Breakfast

BreakfastOne of my favorite things about staying at a BnB is the homecooked breakfast…that doesn’t require me to do any shopping, chopping, or cleaning!

Jaylyne was a perfect hostess during our stay and quite the cook as well. The breakfast menu consisted of sausage patties and cinnamon french toast as well as cereal, fruit, yogurt, muffins, coffee, and juice.

We both cleaned our plates!

Somehow we managed not to overstuff ourselves, and after breakfast we were ready to bid Julia’s farewell in search of our next adventure in nearby Cleveland…A Christmas Story House and Museum! (Stay tuned for details of our visit to this iconic home of a holiday classic)!

Leaving Julia’s BnB was bittersweet as we could have used more time relaxing in the peace and tranquility we found here. Possibly reading by the massive fireplace in the front room and definitely another soak in the jacuzzi!

But we vowed to return, possibly even coordinating a couple’s trip!

I’ll leave you with one last video to showcase some of the highlights of Julia’s BnB.

Looks like a wonderful and relaxing getaway! Cleveland is actually on our list of potential future trips – maybe a long weekend to see the Rock n Roll Music Hall of Fame, and if so I’ll definitely come back to this post for ideas!

We didn’t have time for the Rock n Roll Music Hall of Fame on this trip, but that’s definitely on our to-do list when we return as well!
