7 MORE Holiday Movies That Inspire Travel

During this time of year, when I’m not traveling, baking, shopping, or attending parties, I love watching holiday movies! There is nothing better to beat holiday stress than snuggling close to those you love with a mug of hot cider or eggnog while enjoying a festive flick. Especially when those movies incorporate all kinds of travel!
Initially, I shared 7 of my favorite holiday movies that inspire travel. With so many binge-worthy travel-themed holiday movies, I came up with a second list below! Want to go old-school and get the DVDs? Just click on each DVD image to purchase on Amazon! (I later kept the holiday movie binging going with a 3rd list!)
Here are 7 MORE Holiday Movies…that all include a fun travel element!
1. Last Christmas (2019)
Just a few years old, Last Christmas is now a staple on my annual must-watch holiday movie list. I love this movie!
Set in London, the female lead works in a year-round Christmas store. (Sounds like my dream job! But sadly, the store is fictional.)
While she clearly does not have her life together, a holiday romance ensues. Set to a George Michael soundtrack of familiar tunes that will have you singing along.
I won’t spoil the ending for you, but trust me, this movie is more than your typical holiday Rom-Com. And it has me seriously considering a trip to London next December to see how the Brits celebrate the season!
2. Last Holiday (2006)
If the Czech Republic wasn’t already on your travel bucket list, Last Holiday will put this country on your radar for sure.
Finding out she only has a few weeks to live, the movie’s heroine decides to spend the holidays in the lap of luxury in the Czech Republic. With Queen Latifah as the lead, this movie has plenty of laughs as well as heartfelt moments.
This time I will spoil the end and let you know…she doesn’t die. If she did I’m not sure I could recommend it as a must-see movie for this cheerful time of year.
While I haven’t visited the Czech Republic yet, Last Holiday has me contemplating a trip to this historic European country, regardless of the season.
3. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
I hate to even admit it…but had never seen Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! So I vowed to watch it this holiday season and can now see why this is a much-loved holiday comedy.
With John Hughes directing and Steve Martin and John Candy starring, it’s got all the elements needed for a hilarious holiday flick. Throw in 3 modes of transportation and a desperate attempt to make it home in time for Thanksgiving and you’ve got yourself a comedic holiday classic.
4. The Polar Express (2004)
The most popular holiday movie featuring train travel has to be The Polar Express. This holiday classic is perfect for children and adults alike.
The Polar Express is a heartwarming tale of a young boy’s journey to the North Pole aboard a magical train. Along the way, the audience is taken for an adventurous ride that has everyone believing in the magic of Christmas.
A cinematic favorite, Tom Hanks shines in this movie as the conductor, and he also serves as the voice for multiple other characters. Add in amazing life-like animation, and you have an enchanting holiday classic.
The Polar Express will leave you feeling nostalgic for days gone by and have you researching if luxury train travel still exists.
5. Christmas in Rome (2019)
Having recently visited Rome, this was the Hallmark Christmas movie I was most anticipating this season.
Known for cheesy cliches and predictable storylines, Christmas in Rome lived up to the Hallmark movie standard. But for me, this movie was all about the setting. Visiting the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, and the Vatican over the holidays sounds absolutely divine.
As I watched Lacey Chabert envision her dream of starting her own tour company in Rome, I couldn’t help but twinge with jealousy. (On second thought, THIS sounds like my dream job!) And in true Hallmark style, a holiday romance sparked, and viewers got their happy holiday ending.
6. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
If the busy-ness of the holidays has you stressed out, maybe a Caribbean cruise is just what the doctor ordered.
In Christmas with the Kranks, that is exactly what the Kranks thought when they vowed to skip all the holiday hoopla in exchange for a tropical getaway. With the neighbors in strong opposition to the Kranks’ break in tradition, hilarity ensues.
Based on the book, Skipping Christmas, this movie does make one wonder if all the holiday tasks are worth it in the end. My final answer…absolutely!
I wouldn’t trade the hustle and bustle of the holiday season for anything. But if you want to get me a really nice gift this year, a Caribbean cruise to enjoy in the New Year would be much appreciated!
7. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
I couldn’t wrap up this list without including my all-time favorite Christmas movie, It’s a Wonderful Life.
How does this holiday classic inspire travel you might wonder?
Well, if time travel existed, then a visit back to Bedford Falls in the 1940’s sounds like the perfect way to spend the holidays.
On a more practical note, if Bedford Falls actually existed I would definitely be up for a holiday road trip in the modern era. Many people believe the fictitious town of Bedford Falls was actually modeled after Seneca Falls in upstate New York.
I guess I need to add Seneca Falls to my ever-expanding travel bucket list! In the meantime, I think I’ll make a return visit to neighboring Danville, Indiana to get my small town holiday feels. And I’ll continue my annual tradition of watching It’s a Wonderful Life to kick my Christmas spirit into high gear.
Now, who is ready for a holiday movie marathon?!
I’ll bring the popcorn!
What travel-themed holiday movies would you add to this list? Don’t forget to check out list one and list three for even more movie-binging fun!
