5 Tips to Save on Travel (Guest Post)
I am always looking for a good deal! Especially deals that allow me to stretch my travel budget farther. With so many amazing places on the globe to visit, my travel funds never seem to match up to my travel desires. But by finding good travel deals I can fit more travel into the budget…and you can too!
While I have some of my own strategies on how you can afford to travel more, I was excited when a fellow travel enthusiast offered to share her cost-saving tips with Traveling Tanya’s Tribe.

Everyone loves to travel, but no one loves the bills that come along with it. Renting a car,
booking a hotel, eating out, and going on excursions are all big travel expenses, but they’re
all part of the package deal when you take a trip.
When you can’t simply cut things out to save money, take a step back and look for less expensive alternatives.
Here are 5 of my favorite money-saving tips for your next travel adventure.
1. Search for the Best Deals
This one may seem a little obvious, but it can be easy to overlook. Search online for the best
deals on everything you need, such as car rentals, flights, and hotel bookings.
Websites like Priceline offer packages that combine the costs of booking a flight and a hotel
room, or a car rental and a flight, etc.. And you know you’ll get the best deal possible with
their best price guarantee.
You can save even more on traveling by scouring websites like Rakuten for discounts. Check here to see what’s available!
2. Keep Your Trips Small
As tempting as it can be to pack as much travel into your vacation time as possible, it’s
better for your wallet if you stick with one place and really get to know the area. Planning
multiple trips inside your vacation will increase your travel costs with extra flights, bus
trips, or train rides.
Slow travel is a great way to learn a region’s culture and make a few friends since you will be in one place longer and have more free time to spend with the people you meet.
Don’t try to cram four countries into four weeks just because you can!
With slow travel, you’ll save a ton of money and make more meaningful memories.
3. Be Flexible with Flights
One of the biggest price tags when traveling is flight costs. To save money, be flexible with your dates.
Consider flying out on a weekday instead of over the weekend, and you could save a ton of money. It may be cheaper overall to stay an extra night and fly back on a Monday, instead of planning to head home on a Sunday.
Also, try to be open to flying at less desirable times of the day. Nobody wants to get to the airport at 4:00 in the morning, but if it means saving $200, it might be worth it!
4. Rent a Home Instead of a Room
Hotel costs can be astronomical for long stays, so consider renting a home through websites like Tripz and Clanventure. You can find entire apartments, houses, or cabins to rent for your stay, giving you more room to spread out and more amenities to take advantage of than a traditional hotel room.
Vacation rentals are usually stocked with basic essentials and include a kitchen. This can help you save money by not eating out every meal and having a place to store leftovers.
Especially nice for traveling with the family, renting a whole house will give everyone a little more room to breathe, and you won’t be as likely to get stir crazy between excursions.
5. Be Smart about Day-to-Day Travel
Car rentals can be very expensive if you’re staying somewhere for a long time. Instead,
consider using the local bus system or simply walking to your destinations. While renting a
car makes things more convenient, you’ll get more out of the local culture by using local
public transportation. And you’ll see more of the sights if you take it slower and walk around.
Traveling doesn’t have to break the bank!
Be smart about your travel choices and search around for the best deals for you and your family. Slow down and immerse yourself in the local culture, giving you a chance to save some cash while you get a
more well-rounded experience from your vacation.
